Want to Change the System Language on Windows 10? Here’s How to Do It

You might have noticed that when you set up a new Windows 10 system, it prompts you to set the language and region according to your preference. Though, it seems like reinstalling the system to make certain changes; you can do the same without re-installation.

How to Change the Default Language Settings on Windows 10?

Adjusting a few settings on Windows 10 will change the default language settings for you. Follow the sequence mentioned below to do the same.

Disable Language Sync

If a Windows PC is configured with a Microsoft account, the language settings sync across devices as long as you’re logged in with the same account. In case you want to change the language settings to a specific device, you can disable the language sync settings.

The steps to disable the language sync settings on Windows 10 are:

  1. Launch the ‘Settings’ app.
  2. Click on the ‘Accounts’ tab from the menu.
  3. Select the ‘Sync your settings’ option from the left toolbar.
  4. Turn the slider off for ‘Language preferences’ under the Individual sync settings section.

Once you disable the sync settings, you can make changes to your PC without affecting other devices.

Change Language Settings

The steps to change the default language settings on Windows 10 are:

  1. Close all the running windows and applications on your PC.
  2. Launch the ‘Settings’ app.
  3. Click on the ‘Time & Language’ option from the menu.
  4. Select the ‘Language’ option from the left toolbar.
  5. Scroll down to the Preferred Languages section and tap on the ‘Add a language’ option.

Change Region Settings

If you’re changing the language of your PC because you’ve moved to a different region, you’ll also have to change the region settings.

The steps to change the region settings on Windows 10 are:

  1. Launch the ‘Settings’ app.
  2. Click on the ‘Time & Language’ option from the menu.
  3. Select the ‘Region’ option from the left toolbar.
  4. Tap on the ‘Country or region’ drop-down menu and select the location.
  5. Change the settings for the format of your region’s data under the Regional Format section.
  6. Select the ‘Language’ option from the left toolbar.
  7. Click on the ‘Administrative Language Settings’ option on the right side of the window.
  8. A new window will open. Hit the ‘Change system locale’ button.
  9. Use the drop-down menu to select the new language.
  10. Tap the ‘Ok’ button.
  11. Click on the ‘Cancel’ option for the background window.
  12. Click on the ‘Copy settings’ option in the Region window.
  13. Mark the checkbox for the ‘Welcome screen and system accounts’ and New user accounts’ option.
  14. Click on the ‘Ok’ button twice as it’ll pop up.
  15. Select the ‘Restart Now’ option.

Once you’ve followed the steps correctly, your PC’s regional settings will change.
